CLAT Application Form 2019: How to Apply Online?

CLAT Application Form 2019 is released online at www.clat.ac.in from January 13 to April 15, 2019 (Extended). Law aspirants who are intermediate graduates (LLB program) or LLB graduates (LLM programs) and seeking admissions to 19 NLUs or other participating universities can register from January 2019. Before starting to fill the online form, candidates must ensure that they are satisfying Eligibility for CLAT.

Pre-requisites for CLAT Registration
• Personal details (Name, Date of Birth, Mobile No., Email ID, Parent’s Name, Parent’s Mobile No., and Address etc.)
• Address for Communication with PIN Code
• Academic Details (Percentage and marks in School/ Institute/ College)
• Front Facing Passport size photograph and signature in a specified format.
• Scanned copy of caste certificate (for SC/ ST/ SAP candidates) in PDF format only.
• Scanned copy of Certificate of impairment for Specially Abled Persons (SAP) in PDF/ JPG/ JPEG format only (if applicable).
• Program in which candidate wishes to appear (UG Course or PG Course)
• Certificates in support of Candidate’s claim for NRI/NRI sponsored candidate
• Domicile Certificate in support of candidate’s claim for consideration under State Quota
• Scanned copy of Domicile Category in PDF format only (if applicable)
Note: There is no need to send any hard copy of the application form to the CLAT Office.

How to Fill CLAT Form 2019?
Every year there is a 4-5% increase in CLAT Registration for LLB Program. Whereas, for LLM Program there a substantial decrease of around 2% in registration. It is expected that the percentage remains the same for both of the programs.
APPLY NOW CHECK ELIGIBILITY GET UPDATES
Step 1: Filling Basic Information
• Visit CLAT Official website and click on “Apply Online”.
• A new screen will appear, on the top right a tab ‘Click Here For New Registration’ is placed. Click on it.
• Enter Name, Email ID, Mobile No. and captcha code.
• A Provisional Registration No. and Password will be sent to the registered email and mobile. Use these credentials to log in to fill the online application.

Note(s):
1) Name of the applicant and parents should be correctly spelled as mentioned in the certificates/ mark sheets/ ID proof.
2) Any alterations found may result in rejection of the application.
3) Candidates submitting more than one application with the same ID and Mobile No., the last successful submission will be considered by the authorities.
Step 2: Scanning and Uploading of Documents
• Use the provisional User ID and password to log in again.
• Next, proceed to upload Photo and Signature as per the specifications provided by NLU Odisha, Cuttack. Check Guidelines for Photo & Signature
Step 3: Fill CLAT Application Form
• Proceed to fill other details on the Online Form.
• The details are to be filled in any order on the page.
The details to be provided are as follows:
Program Applying For
• Choose any one program i.e. Undergraduate (LL.B) or Postgraduate (LL.M).
Note: CNLU Patna does not offer any PG Program. If you choose PG Program in the preference list then it will be ignored.
All India Category Applied for
• There are four category options to choose from.
• General/ Unreserved category will be chosen automatically for all the NLUs if candidate does not check the relevant box.
• The reservation category must be chosen carefully as the options registered in the application will be the basis for any future claims in CLAT 2019.
Note: No change in category will be permitted after Final Submission of the online application.
Gender and Nationality
• Select/ check the relevant box as per their gender.
• If Female is chosen, the applicant will be automatically considered for Women Reservation under All India category in the NLUs offering the same. CheckCLAT Reservation Policy
• Also, choose Indian as their Nationality.
• In case of NRI/ NRI Sponsored the provision for the same is different.
State of Residence
The residence is decided as per the policies of each NLU. The official e-brochures for all the National Law Universities are available at the end of the article.
For NLUJA Assam
1) The university extends State reservation on the basis of permanent residence.
2) For claiming reservation under this quota, choose Assam as the State of Residence.
State of Domicile
• Domicile is decided on the basis of NLUs policies.
• NLUs like NLIU Bhopal, WBNUJS Kolkata, HNLU Raipur and MNLU Mumbai extends State Reservation especially on the basis of domicile.
• To claim the reservation rights, one must choose the respective State as his/ her State of Domicile.
State of Nativity
It is also based on the policies stated by each NLU. It is important to choose the State of Nativity, whether it is relevant for any claim or not.
For NUALS Kochi
The University especially extends State reservation on the basis of the nativity. For claiming reservation under this quota, choose Kerala as the State of Nativity.
Are you a Person with Disability (PwD/SAP/ Divyang)?
• The authorities have predefined terms for PwD candidates.
• It is important to satisfy all the standards in order to avail benefits by NLUs that provide such reservations.
• Candidates have to upload the certificate of disability from the competent authority before final submission.
Percentage of Disability
Only candidates having 40% or more disability are entitled to avail the benefits. The certificate from a competent authority must clearly mention the percentage of disability.
APPLY NOW CHECK ELIGIBILITY GET UPDATES
Would you bring a Scribe
Visually impaired or cerebral palsy or with locomotor impairment candidates, and whose speed of writing/ keyboard/mouse use is affected, can take the help of a scribe during the offline examination. There will be an option to bring in your own scribe or opt for CLAT authority providing a scribe.
Note The option is to be chosen in CLAT Application Form
Other Details to be mentioned are as follows:
• Would you like to have access to previous years’ CLAT question paper in e-format? – Candidates will have an option to download Previous year question paper by paying a requisite fee of INR 500.
• University Category – General/ Unreserved category is a default option that will be pre-checked if a candidate fails to select his/ her category. Each NLU has its own seats break up and reservation, one must check the official brochures before selecting the university category.
• Exam City Preference – Candidates can choose three exam centers in order of preference. The authorities hold the rights to allot or not allot any of the cities preferred.
• Personal Details – Provide all your personal details accurately and completely as mentioned in your official documents.

• Educational Qualifications – Enter the year of passing, name of the Board, marks, and percentage obtained in intermediate level or graduate level.
Note: Candidates are required to convert grade /CGPA (if any) into a percentage.
• NLUs Preference – The list of all the National Law Universities will be listed as per their year of establishment. Choose NLUs as per your preference. The same preferential choices will be considered during CLAT Counselling
Step 4: Payment of CLAT Application Fee
The payment can be done via online (Debit/ Credit card/ net banking) or offline (e-challan) mode. The fee varies for all the categories and is non- refundable.

Details of Online Payment Mode
The fee can be paid using Debit/ Credit card/ net banking. Bank Transaction Charges may vary depending upon the payment option selected.
• Card mode: Enter card details (select card type, card number, expiry date, and CVV number)
• Net Banking Mode: Choose preferred bank, enter user ID & Password and make the payment.
Details of Offline Payment Mode (E-Challan):
• Offline mode payments can be made after registering the application online and generating the challans online.
• The print out of the e-challans generated has to be taken to the bank concerned for payment over the counter.
• Cheques, DDs or other instruments/modes of payment are not acceptable.
• e-challan is generated in PDF format only.
• Offline payments are to be made in cash only.
Note – Overhead charges for online or offline payment
Candidates filling in CLAT Application have to bear extra charges while making the payment via online or offline mode. Tabulated below is the same:

CLAT Application Form FAQs
Ques. What are the reasons for rejection of Application Form?
Ans. Due to the following any one of the reason, the form might get rejected:
1. An incomplete application form in any respect without uploading photo and signature
2. An incomplete application form in respect of without fee payment will be rejected
3. If face of candidate in the photograph or signature is unclear in the application, it may be rejected
Ques. How to recover CLAT Form Password?
Ans. If any candidate forgot his/ her password of login page, it can be retrieved by following some simple steps:
• Open the official website of CLAT
• Click on ‘Apply Online’ link
• Click on ‘Already Registered’ tab
• Next, click on ‘Forgot Password’ link
• Enter Registered E-mail ID
• Enter characters as shown in the image
• Click on ‘Retrive Password’ tab
After doing the all above steps, you will receive a mail containing your password. Use the password for logging to CLAT 2019 website.
Ques. What should I do if there is a delay in accessing the application page?
Ans. There are various factors due to which the process of registration may be getting delayed. They are as follows:
• Slow Internet Speed,
• A large number of applicants trying to register at the same time etc.
Therefore if you are not able to access the page immediately, retry after a gap of 15 minutes or during off-peak hours i.e. during the night.
Ques. How to will I know if I have registered successfully?
Ans. Successfully registered candidates will be sent a prompt Email or SMS informing the status of the application. The communication method will carry the login credentials i.e. Registration No. and Password. Make sure to note down the same for future processes like filling in the form again and downloading CLAT Admit Card.
Ques. I did not receive the email intimation for successful registration?
Ans. The log in credentials are sent by auto-response confirmation emails. Delivery of these e-mails depends on the following factors:
• Correctness of e-mail ID provided,
• Policy of your E-mail Service Provider to accept and divert such emails under Bulk or Spam Mails.
• In case of Govt./official /company e-mail Ids, delivery is controlled by your Company Policies.
Ques. How to re-confirm that my application is saved?
Ans. If you are doubtful of successful Registration, it is advised to visit the Page for Print of Application, generate the Print-out and preserve the soft copy and hard copy (print-out) of the Application.
Ques. I got Blank / Zero Registration No. after submission of application online?
Ans. It is a rare case where an applicant may get Zero (0) Registration No. with valid Password. It is advisable to register again and check the Printout through Print Application.
Ques. After completing form, I got Blank Screen / Internet got disconnected / My PC closed / hanged / shutdown. Is my application saved/registered?
Ans. In such cases, visit the Page for Print of Application, take the print out and save for future processes. If you do not get the application printout through Print option, your application is not saved. You will have to apply again.
Ques. I did not receive any acknowledgment/ reply to my e-mail communication?
Ans. “Reply to” e-mail ID is created for the convenience of candidates for genuine communications. It is not used to send back the e-mails for “Acknowledgment”, “Vacation Mail”, “Friendship Offers”, “Sales Offers” etc. The server such emails automatically.
Ques. What details should I retain while replying to auto-response emails?
Ans. While writing back by replying to the confirmation e-mails for genuine problem, please retain the text containing “Registration No.” and “Password” credentials.
Ques. What details are to be provided while writing about the problem?
Ans. The details to be provided are as follows:
• Registration No.
• Mobile No.
• Date of Birth
• Full Name as entered in application.
In case of application failure or any error message, the authority will need a screenshot of the error in JPG, GIF format or as MS Word format. Additionally, you may provide the PC details including the Operating System (like Windows XP, Vista, Linux etc.) & Internet Browser & version (like Internet Explorer 6.0, Mozilla 3.0, Firefox 3.5 etc.) used.
Ques. I want to change/ correct the details entered in CLAT Application Form?
Ans. Prior to submission of online application, choose the edit option to correct the details. Take fresh print out after modifying any details. One must take note that the data entered in Basic Info cannot be modified. If you fail to access the webpage or the webpage does not load properly, try to use any other PC with either Internet Explorer (9 or above), Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or above, Google Chrome 3.0 or above, with Javascript enabled, before filing the report with CLAT help desk.
Ques. What are the online modes of payments available?
Ans. Online mode for paying the fee is as follows:
• Net-banking,
• Debit card,/ credit card
Wherein, candidate will have to bear the additional transaction costs for remitting the fees through payment gateways.
Ques. What are the offline modes of payments available?
Ans. For paying the fees offline through website, the candidate will have to download the ‘Bank Challan’ that will be generated with the required information, as filled in by the candidate, and make the payment with additional bank charges at any branch of the SBI. After making the requisite payment at the bank, the candidate needs to fill-in the details of the Bank Challan as required at the relevant section of the website.
Ques. What documents are needed during registration for CLAT?
Ans. The scanned attested photocopies of the documents to be uploaded in the PDF format (or as specified) by all the candidates are:
1. Birth Certificate
2. Standard X Mark sheet
3. Qualifying Examination Mark sheet/Certificate such as 10+2 or its equivalent examination certificate from a recognized Board (for UG Courses).
4. Qualifying Examination Mark sheet/Certificate such as LL.B. or its equivalent examination certificate from a recognized University (for PG Courses).
5. Passport size photograph (3.5 cms x 4.5 cms) [JPG Format]
6. Signature of candidate [JPG Format]
7. Signature of parent/guardian [JPG Format]
Ques. Should I send hard copies of any document or filled in CLAT forms to CLAT office/ NUALS Kochi office?
Ans. No, there is no need to send any document or CLAT application form to the CLAT office. However, it is advised that one should keep a hard copy of filled-in CLAT 2019 application form for future correspondences with the authorities.
Ques. How many times can I edit/ modify/ make changes in CLAT Application Form?
Ans. A candidate can make changes in the online form as many times as he/ she wishes before paying CLAT application fee. No changes can be made after the payment is made and the form has been submitted.
Ques. What should be done if there is a lot of delay in accessing the page?
Ans. The reason for this could be –
• Internet Speed
• Large number of applicants trying to register the application at the same time etc.
Therefore if you are not able to get the pages for registration immediately, please retry after a gap of 15 minutes or during off-peak hours during the night.

Ans. Successful Registration will prompt an e-mail communication or SMS after the clicking on the ‘Submit’ Button. The Email/ SMS will have the generated “Registration No.” and “Password”. Note down these credentials carefully and preserve it for future references.
Ques. I did not receive the email intimation for registration of my application?
Ans. Registration No. with the Password are sent by auto-response Confirmation emails. Delivery of the same purely depends upon the correctness of ID provided, Policy of your e-mail Service Provider. In case of Govt./official /company e-mail Ids, delivery is controlled by your Company Policies.

Ques. I have misspelt the name of my parent in CLAT Application Form. What should I do?
Ans. The name of the candidate and parents should be spelled correctly in the online application as it appears in the certificates/ mark sheets/ ID proof. Any change or alteration may result in disqualification of candidature.
Ques. I belong to SAP category, apart from my photo and signature, what other document do I need to upload with CLAT Online Application?
Ans. Specially Abled Persons (SAP) are required to upload a scanned copy of their SAP certificate in PDF format issued by the competent authority.
Ques. Is it important to attest the photo and signature while registering for CLAT exam?
Ans. No, there is no need to attest the photo and signature of the candidate while submitting CLAT Application Form.
Ques. Will there be any correction window for CLAT 2019?
Ans. No, there is no facility to make corrections in the form. Information once furnished can not be modified at later stages. Therefore, it is suggested to read instructions carefully, enter the information correctly and preview the form before final submission.
